A programmable oscillator is simply an oscillator in which the resonator frequency is post-processed to the desired output frequency utilizing an integer-mode or fractional-phase-locked loop (PLL). The resonator employed is either a bulk acoustic wave (BAW) quartz crystal resonator or a MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) resonator. The oscillator output frequency and other operational functions are configured using the internal programmable memory of the integrated circuit. This circuit is comprised of an oscillator loop, a typical phase-locked loop (PLL) and associated functional blocks to facilitate various bias level and output logic configurations.
